Twenty three small companies from Carlow, from children's swing manufacturers to alarm installers, are grouping together to showcase their businesses at the biggest agricultural event in the country - the National Ploughing Championships in nine weeks time.Over the three day event, from September 20th to 22nd, an estimated 180,000 visitors will travel to Athy in Co. Kildare. Of those, organisers at the Carlow County Enterprise Board and Carlow Chamber are expecting 40,000 people to visit the 'Experience Carlow' stand alone.

Carlow firm, Hi-Spec Engineering, has announced that it has formed a new joint venture with German company Europe Dairy Systems. Hi-Spec, which is based in Bagenalstown made the announcement in Dusseldorf during the St. Patrick’s Day visit of the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mr Richard Bruton to Germany. The newly formed company, Hi-Spec Deutschland GmbH,allows Hi-spec to establish a permanent presence in Germany for the storage and distribution of products and parts, product presentations and dealer training.

Individuals, organisations, voluntary groups and companies are being invited to enter this year's Spirit of Enterprise Michael Dee Award. Named after the late Michael Dee, a former Enterprise Ireland executive who tirelessly supported the development of enterprise across the South East, the award organisers are calling for nominations before the March 31st deadline.

"The show must go on, so let’s get going now," is the optimistic message from female entrepreneurs, business women and the Carlow County Enterprise Board which are all involved in a major conference and awards scheme in the South East next month. The South East Women in Business Conference takes place in the Tower Hotel in Waterford on Friday, September 17th and the Carlow County Enterprise Board has enlisted the help of established and emerging entrepreneurs, to help women-led businesses continue to run and grow their businesses, to help protect more local jobs.
