Research and innovation, involving collaboration between businesses and knowledge providers, and utilising EU funding, is one of the motors that will drive sustainable development in Ireland. This was the clear message given by a panel of industry practitioners, Enterprise Ireland, and an eminent academic from the University of Strathclyde at a research and development-themed seminar held in Intel Shannon last week.

Shannon Chamber has teamed up with Supply Network Shannon and Enterprise Ireland to deliver a half-day seminar on the practical benefits of accessing and utilising national and EU research and development (R&D) funding for product, process and/or technology development. The seminar, which takes place at Intel Shannon on Wednesday, 23 March from 8.30am to 12.15pm, includes an impressive line-up of national and international contributors.

Over five hundred companies and executives have signed up to a new online service that provides senior professionals and companies with an exclusive online forum for developing business and executive career planning. Irish based company The Interventions Group launched Execpass in 2010. Execpass is a subscription based service aimed at Companies and high-level managers/professionals who are validated before they gain membership. The idea behind the service is to offer an exclusive service that will speed up business development and senior recruitment by getting straight to the decision makers.

Midwest Showcase 2010, a combined seminar and exhibition on entrepreneurship and innovation in the Midwest which will be held at Thomond Park, Limerick on Thursday 21st October, has just been launched. This is the first year of the Midwest Showcase and is a joint collaboration of a number of Networks and support agencies expanding the Enterprise Acceleration Centre (EAC) at Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) Showcase which has run successfully for the last 3 years.

The recently founded Clare Farm Heritage Tours Co-op is now offering guided tours of the beautiful and unique Burren environment with its abundance of archaeological monuments, pre-historical sites and examples of traditional farming. The co-operative of nine North Clare farmers continue a tradition of farming in the Burren which dates back over 6000 years. More than 100 archaeological sites and monuments have been identified throughout land currently farmed and managed by members of the co-op. With the establishment of the Clare Farm Heritage Tours Co-op, the landowners can now offer guided access to these sites and monuments, which are representative of the treasures of north Clare.

The inaugural Mid-West Regional Business Week was launched by Counties Kerry, Clare, Limerick, North Tipperary and Limerick City Enterprise Boards in Adare, Co Limerick on Tuesday 15th September 2009.
Mid-West Regional Business Week will take place from Monday 5th – Friday 9th October 2009 with an extensive programme of seminars, workshops, networking events and expos addressing relevant business topics.
