The Genesis Enterprise Programme is a publicly funded 12 month rapid incubation programme designed to provide support and management skills development for entrepreneurs leading knowledge based start-ups in Cork and Kerry.

Having helped over 140 entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground, Genesis has a proven track record of success with start ups across a diversity of sectors including medical devices, food, photonics, mechanical engineering, biotech, machine vision and many others. Some of the Genesis business success stories include Abtran, Amocom, Comnitel, Cully & Sully, Selatra, and Pulse Learning.

Commencing each spring, the Genesis programme equips participants with the practical skills, expertise, networks and tools necessary to develop an idea into a solid real business. Along the way, they learn how talk to the market, raise investment capital, and launch the product/service in the marketplace.

What supports are available?

The 12-month Programme offers the start-up entrepreneur the following supports:

  • potentially 50% of prior year income (up to a maximum of EURO 38,000)
  • An environment with other entrepreneurs in the early stages of business development
  • Business accommodation & address in incubation facilities in Cork and Tralee
  • Up to 30 days of business training in strategy, finance, marketing, sales etc. delivered via classroom instruction, workshops, one to one clinics and coaching
  • Experienced business mentor for each participant
  • Opportunity to access the staff, capabilities and facilities of the Programme Partners
  • Funding supports

 

About the Genesis Enterprise Programme

The Genesis Enterprise Programme has been in operation since 1998. The focus of the Genesis Enterprise Programme is to provide a package of supports to the entrepreneur in the South West Region (Cork and Kerry) in accelerating the development of their business in the first 12 months of operation.

Businesses from diverse sectors have participated in the past including Food, Information Technology, Biotech, Telecommunications, Renewable Energy, Medical Device and Automotive. The key criteria for eligibility are that the business is knowledge based and has export potential.

The Programme is currently funded by the Department of Education and Science and Enterprise Ireland under the National Development Plan, 2000 to 2006.

The Genesis Enterprise Programme is administered by the Cork Institute of Technology in partnership with 9 other regional and national organizations, University College Cork, Enterprise Ireland, the 5 South West Region County Enterprise Boards (Kerry, Cork City, Cork North, South Cork, West Cork),Údarás Na Gaeltachta, and Cork BIC. Together, representatives of these organizations form the Genesis Steering Group which oversees the programme.

A dedicated and experienced Programme Manager manages the Programme. The role of the Programme Manager is to operate the programme on a day to day basis and liaise between the Genesis Steering Group and the programme participants.
