Until Christmas Eve, THE DESIGN CORNER on George's Street in Dún Laoghaire will be home to the work of twenty-two craftspeople and designers from the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown region, giving the local creative sector a welcome boost. Park House on George's Street in Dún Laoghaire, opposite the entrance to People's Park, is where the THE DESIGN CORNER will be opening its doors to the public every day between now and December 24th.

The search for nominees begins today in the 'Most Promising Start-Up,' 'Business Growth,' 'Female Entrepreneur,' and 'Best Networker' categories, as part of an annual awards initiative for small local businesses. Organised by the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Enterprise Board, the two founders of the men's Irish fashion label: 'Counter Propaganda,' Richard Doody and Feargal Swann, won the overall award last year. The company designs and distribute men's casual-wear for retailers in Ireland, the UK, Spain, Romania and Japan, in addition to running their own retail outlets in Dublin.

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Council have announced a new initiative to make use of empty commercial property Dún Laoghaire. The County’s first ‘Pop-Up Shop’ is located at Park House, Georges Street Upper and will offer temporary low-cost space to local business entrepreneurs, social enterprises or community organisations to promote their goods and services. The initiative hopes to attract new visitors and generate positive publicity for Dún Laoghaire Town Centre, while showcasing empty properties to potential tenants.

From the 20th April, Ireland joins other E.U. countries, such as Finland, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium by offering an Enterprise Exchange Programme for new entrepreneurs. Funded by the E.U. Commission, the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs Programme enables 'new' entrepreneurs in Ireland, who are in the early stages of business development, to be matched with experienced entrepreneurs abroad.

An Enterprise Exchange Programme "with a difference" is being launched in Dublin next week for the first time, enabling new Irish entrepreneurs to work abroad with experienced entrepreneurs in other EU countries. Under the EU-wide business support scheme, called the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs Programme (EYE), Irish companies can also host new entrepreneurs from abroad for up to six months, gaining market knowledge, fresh ideas and key skills for growth.
