Professor William Gallagher, a leading cancer biology researcher in UCD’s School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science, was yesterday presented with the NovaUCD 2011 Innovation Award. The Award was presented by Dr Hugh Brady, President, University College Dublin (UCD) to recognise Professor Gallagher’s ongoing successes in the commercialisation of intellectual property arising from UCD research programmes.

Eight exceptional organisations have been announced as finalists of the 2011 Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Awards, each vying for a part of the €650,000 prize fund. The prize fund, supported by DCC plc, has increased by over a third this year in response to the increasing strength of social entrepreneurship in Ireland and the growing need for the services social entrepreneurs provide.

InterTradeIreland has announced the launch of this year’s 2011 All-Island Seedcorn Business Competition with a cash prize fund of €280,000. Each year, companies taking part in the unique competition, which mimics the real-life investment process, are mooted as the ‘ones to watch’. Liam Nellis, InterTradeIreland Chief Executive, said: “Seedcorn is the largest business competition of its kind across the island. Aside from the substantial prize fund on offer, companies taking part will join InterTradeIreland Seedcorn network – an extensive business and investment community that will help boost their profile, contacts and create potential investment opportunities.

Dundalk Institute of Technology, (DkIT) in collaboration with Dublin City University (DCU) is pleased to announce details of this year’s Novation Enterprise Platform Programme, (NEPP).
