NovaUCDNovaUCD, the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at University College Dublin, today announced strong commercialisation results for 2010 at the launch of its latest Annual Report. NovaUCD is responsible for the commercialisation of intellectual property arising from research and other knowledge-intensive activity at UCD. During 2010 UCD researchers reported 57 new invention disclosures to the University through NovaUCD.

Young Farmer of the YearThe search for the 2011 FBD Young Farmer of the Year is now underway. Applications are sought from young farmers throughout Ireland who are actively involved in the running of a farm. The competition was launched this week by Macra na Feirme, the IFA and sponsors, FBD. The aim of this prestigious competition, run by Macra na Feirme in partnership with the IFA, is to recognise and reward the top young farmers in the country. Entrants are judged according to a number of criteria including farm business initiative and innovation, levels of farm efficiency and enterprise quality, farm safety and environmental protection awareness, as well as agricultural knowledge and community involvement.

Enterprise IrelandEleven promising start up companies have presented their business models to some of Ireland's leading investors at a Dragon's Den style event organised by Enterprise Ireland and PA Consulting. The event marks the culmination of Enterprise Ireland's Propel 2 Programme. The eleven entrepreneurs were selected to take part in Enterprise Ireland's Propel programme last May. The entrepreneurs underwent intensive business training and mentoring with management consultants PA Consulting which helped the entrepreneurs establish their start up companies and brought them to the point where they were 'funding ready'.
