Yes I am a freelancer by definition, but as someone wise once said, my services aren’t “free”, my name isn’t “lance”, nor am I in any way familiar with this medieval weapon. The term ‘freelancer’ itself actually originated in the Middle Ages when mercenary knights, with no allegiance to anyone in particular, would take their lances into battle for various kings, princes, lords and even wealthy land owners – essentially for whoever paid them the most.  Our modern day knights constitute a multitude of business professionals ranging from designers, programmers, writers and actors to photographers, journalists, consultants and many other solo professions.

ZenimaxZeniMax Online Studios, a ZeniMax® Media company, with the Irish Government’s Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation Richard Bruton TD, announced today plans to open a customer support centre in Galway, Ireland.  The Company’s new facility will provide customer support for players of their future massively multiplayer online games and is expected to result in the creation of hundreds of jobs over the next several years.

This programme invites applications before 18 March and runs over 4 Saturdays. It is a precursor to the very effective CÉIM programme for entrepreneurs offered by Letterkenny IT and IT Sligo and managed by WESTBIC. CÉIM has brought over 70 new ideas to market since it began. The closing date for entries for Pre-Start is Friday 18 March, 2011 and it begins Saturday 26 March.

Mixed Results in Business and Banking Survey By Enterprise Boards PDF Print E-mail

City and County Enterprise BoardsExpectations for 'better' turnover but availability of credit still an issue. A third of small businesses expect turnover to be better over next six months, and yet over half rate the current business environment as "poor" or "very poor," highlighting that access to credit is still a worrying issue for Ireland's small business community. Those are amongst the findings published on February 25th by the County and City Enterprise Boards as part of their bi-annual Business and Banking Confidence survey, which included the views of over 1,200 sole traders and small business owners throughout the country.
