Taking Care of Business 2011 is a major event taking place on February 16th 2011 in the new Convention Centre, Spencer Dock, Dublin, with a view to helping small business owners and managers understand how effective management of worker health and safety can benefit the bottom line.
The event will run throughout the day from 8am to 8pm, with demonstrations, speakers and workshops running on an a continuous basis. The purpose of the exhibition is to demonstrate how simple it can be to minimise the chances of a workplace accident. Those attending will be among the first businesses to have access to the free online safety statement and risk assessment which has been developed by the HSA, with trained staff on hand to assist you on its operation.
Below you will find a description of each of the zones and areas at the event. This information will help you to arrange your visit to Taking Care of Business and maximise your time at the various exhibitions, live demos, seminar talks and advice centres. Also below, we have included links to a seminar schedule and a map of the exhibition hall.
•Workplace Zone: This zone demonstrates the typical hazards that exist in 3 different workplace scenes; staff will be located at these areas to demonstrate such hazards and to describe how best to manage or control the risk of injury. •Try it out Zone: Learn how to navigate and use the online risk assessment and safety statement tool designed by the HSA specifically for small businesses. Get support on registration from HSA staff. •True stories Zone: In this area, you can read about real accident/injury cases as they occurred in small businesses, the causes, the consequences and how they could have been avoided. •Hazard Zone: This area demonstrates the most commonly occurring hazards across all small business, for example Manual Handling, Fire and Electricity. Learn the top tips for effective management and see live demonstrations of solutions or controls to minimise the risks of accident/injury associated with these hazards. •Seminar area: A 200 seat auditorium located within the exhibition hall will host talks from guest speakers and Health & Safety Authority inspectors alike, these talks will run on a continuous basis throughout the day. See the seminar schedule below for further information. •Advice Centre: Experts from the HSA will be located in this area for the duration of the event; pay a visit here for a one to one confidential conversation on any aspect of workplace Health & Safety, to meet our Workplace Contact Unit Staff or pick up a publication. •Business Café: As the name suggests, drop in for a coffee and to meet or network with other small businesses owners, employers or employees. •Health Stop: Visit this area for all matters relating to workplace health and welfare. •Information: General information on the event, the HSA, lost and found, PA system. •Event Partners: A number of organisations will participate as partners, providing advice and information on their services as they relate to small business.
