Seán Sherlock T.D. Minister for Research & Innovation today launched ‘New Frontiers’, Ireland’s largest entrepreneur development programme. New Frontiers is a national programme funded and coordinated by Enterprise Ireland and will be delivered locally by 13 Irish Institutes of Technology.

NovaUCD, the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at University College Dublin (UCD), expects 300 highly-skilled jobs to be created through the 37 companies based at the centre over the coming two years. This will more than double the number of people currently employed in companies based at the centre [205].

Fifty -two craftspeople, designers and artists from around the country are hoping to make a big impact on international buyers at January's Showcase event in the RDS. The group of micro-enterprises, many of which are first-time exhibitors, are being supported by their local Enterprise Boards, to help them secure sales and export orders for 2012.

Irish tidal energy technology company, OpenHydro, has been honoured at the 2011 Ireland France Business Awards for their outstanding company performance in 2011 and promotion of bilateral trade and investment between Ireland and France. At an awards ceremony held in Paris, OpenHydro was selected as The Best Irish Company in France owing to its major technological breakthrough in the area of tidal technology, while in the process linking up with two major French companies, EDF and DCNS.
