Cloud services are reshaping the way companies do business and manage their information and open up tremendous opportunities for Irish companies. The Irish Internet Association, in partnership with Enterprise Ireland and sponsored by Microsoft, is holding a series of Cloud Awareness and Adoption events for summer 2013 aimed at helping Irish SMEs assess the potential of using cloud-based business models to support their export growth – the first event takes place in Galway on Thursday 30 May, 2013.

The online-entry system for the European Satellite Navigation Competition goes live this week. From 1 April to 30 June 2013, entrants from all over the world can submit their entries to compete for the €1m prize fund, and the prestigious overall title of Galileo Master. The dedicated Irish Region prize is in its second year, and is once again sponsored by National Space Centre Ltd.

The IE Domain Registry (IEDR), the managed registry for Ireland’s official Internet address .ie, announced on the 27th March 2013 that its 2013 OPTIMISE e-Commerce Website Development Fund is open for entries. IEDR is calling on SME and micro-business owners nationwide to apply for one of 20 places on this year’s OPTIMISE Fund. The OPTIMISE Fund provides €150,000 worth of professional consultation, training and development support services to small business owners looking to improve and develop their existing online presence in terms of e-commerce capability and functionality.

Irish innovators received a significant boost when Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, along with Ministers from 23 other Member States, signed the Unified Patent Court Agreement in Brussels on Tuesday. The agreement is the last part of a package of measures that will provide a one-stop shop for innovative enterprises to register and protect their patents in the European Union. Its creation will save Irish businesses seeking patent coverage in Europe significant amounts, with up to €6 million spent annually on patent translation costs alone.

Enterprise Ireland have announced that the latest call for applications for the Innovation Vouchers initiative will take place from the 8th to the 28th April 2013. The Innovation Voucher initiative was developed to build links between Ireland's public knowledge providers (i.e. higher education institutes, public research bodies) and small businesses. Innovation Vouchers worth €5,000 are available to assist a company or companies to explore a business opportunity or problem with a registered knowledge provider.
